Tonight's dinner was from Rose Market, an Iranian grocery store known for their hostility to foreigners. kebabs with various herbs and onions that made me cry..

after dinner, I tried yet another recipe for chai, this time from
Confessions of a Cardamom Addict.
I bought my first mortar and pestle at Rose Market! Ever since I've been 5 or 6, I've always dreamed about crushing herbs in one! Today, that childhood dream came true. This one's kinda small but I'll work my way up to nicer ones.Masala Chai
Ingredients
180ml milk
180ml water
2 whole cardamom pods
5cm cinnamon stick
3 whole cloves
1 star anise
1 thinnish slice fresh ginger
2 whole black peppercorns
2 rounded tsp black tea
Directions
Lightly crush together the cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, star anise and peppercorns.
Tip the contents into a small saucepan and add the remaining ingredients (milk, water, ginger and black tea). Bring to a boil and allow to steep to desired strength.
Strain through a very fine mesh seive into a pot or directly in to cups/mugs. Sweeten to taste with honey, sugar or vanilla sugar.

I couldn't really taste the ginger, so I'll try adding more next time. Also, more cloves and anise!
